TIRANE - A thriller-like incident shook the capital yesterday. The Albanian BBC journalist, Mr. Gëzim [B?]umba, was wounded by gunfire by several unidentified people in the capital. According to the police, Mr. Bumba was driving home by car. When, near Zogu i Zi, masked and armed individuals ambushed him. Sources from the Tirana Police say that in this incident Mr. Bumba suffered a wound in the abdomen. Immediately after the incident he was rushed to the military hospital, where he underwent surgery. However, doctors said he had passed the danger to his life. At the scene, police found 8 pistol shell casings. Nearby they also found a bomb with a cap connected to a lit fuse, which fortunately did not explode. Two vehicles will circulate in public areas
TIRANË - Police specialists from the capital will go out today onto the streets and neighborhoods of Tirana to call on citizens to hand over their weapons. Sources from the Tirana Police said yesterday that two vehicles equipped with loudspeakers will circulate in several key points of the capital, appealing to citizens to surrender all the weapons they keep at home. The capital police operation will focus on Tirana’s peripheral neighborhoods such as Kombinat, Kinostudio, etc. This action is being carried out as part of the government campaign for the voluntary surrender of weapons, which began a few days ago. The head of Criminal Police in Albania, Hekuran Isai, stated yesterday for ATSH that around 5,000 combat weapons, automatic rifles and pistols, have been voluntarily handed over by citizens to the police.
