Ceka: Berisha opened the depots

Interior Minister: “He ordered Albanians to be armed” “So far 100,000 weapons have been collected, but another 800,000 are still in circulation” The Interior Minister accuses former president Sali Berisha of opening the weapons depots and of encouraging the arming of the population. TIRANË Former president Sali Berisha, as the organizer of the Vlora massacre and the March events, opened the army depots and ordered the population to be armed. That is what Interior Minister Neritan Ceka declared yesterday, who in an interview for “Zëri i Amerikës” held the former president responsible for the bloodshed and the rebellion in the country. In addition, Ceka said that “those who ordered the murder of Azem Hajdari and the disappearance of SHIK were the old state leaders.” He added that so far around 100,000 weapons have been collected, but 800,000 more weapons are still in circulation. Insufficient support from the state and from law-enforcement structures, according to the minister, has made the disarmament process difficult. In his interview, Ceka said that in Albania “there is no longer the former order and administration” and that the state must be rebuilt on new foundations. He also referred to the clash with the former Director General of Police, stressing that responsibility for the March events is both political and criminal. CONTINUES ON PAGE 5
