Albania-Serbia shake hands
Nano meets Milošević; Kosovo laid out for a solution Serbian president: "We will see according to international laws" Albanian prime minister: "Positive meeting"
TIRANË - Nano with Milo and Meksi, with different positions on Kosovo but with an alluring vision, sat yesterday around the summit table in Crete. But the two gentlemen at the top? were drawn into a face-to-face conversation for 60 minutes. At the first Balkan meeting, Serbian president Milošević did not seem as stern as expected in front of the Albanians. As always, the handshake with a frozen smile and the ceremonial part of the official photographs lasted no more than three minutes. Then, at the request of official Tirana, in the presence of the Greek Foreign Minister Pangalos and the Greek Prime Minister Simitis, the long-awaited meeting began between Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milošević. According to Greek sources, the conversation lasted about 60 minutes. At the end of it, Nano was content with a brief statement, which he described as positive. The doubts, however, still remain. For the Serbian president, Kosovo, no more and no less, is an internal matter of Yugoslavia. Milošević, according to the Greek agency ANA, focused his argument on solving the Kosovo problem according to international laws. Meanwhile, regarding the problems with Albania, he rejected theories about the existence of an Albanian-Serbian problem. The meeting ended with the first signs of reconciliation in a relationship that has been tense for years. The head of the Albanian government called it a "positive meeting." The Albanian prime minister said that they are moving toward resolving the conflict in Kosovo through dialogue. Cont. on page 3

Only one green day
Fatos Baxhaku
How many times have we been caught late and gone after the roar of thunder. How many times have we failed to heed the throats of the tangled voice. It was just as late two weeks ago, when this time it seemed as if you were struggling to convince yourself that it was no longer time to tear down barricades, but to sit at the table. It was just as late as yesterday in Crete, when the whole region sat down to discuss an issue that we have let slip through our fingers. Not because we did not know, but because we have wanted not to see it. Crete was a green day, but only one day. A sign of passage on a road where the traffic lights have been red for years. Albania goes to this summit as a country that still needs to listen more than it speaks. The other countries no longer come as spectators of our noise. They come with interests, projects, clear fears and a language that we can no longer translate with old clichés. To meet Milošević is neither bravery nor treason. It is politics. And politics, in this case, is the art of getting out of the circle in which we have long been trapped. But art is not enough if the will to continue is lacking. Nor is the photograph, the handshake, or the frozen smile for the cameras. Cont. on page 4

Bingo has been played in Kukës for 60 years
RARE
Kukës lacks something that the rest of Albania has long lost: the ritual of a popular game that continues to gather people every week. In a simple but full hall, elderly women, men, young people and children sit with their eyes on the numbers. The game has become part of the life of the city and of a special tradition that has been preserved despite the changes of recent years. [illegible text at the bottom of the page]
