The usury bosses return

The government calls: You must meet the foreign administrators Invitation for Cenaj and M. Leka. The others have already said it themselves: We want to come to Albania After the appointment of the American firm, the government people try to find out the truth TIRANA - The government invites the usury bosses to return. Before the administrators from the firm 'Deloitte & Touche' start work, the Supervisory Council of the transparency process will gather all the presidents of the financial companies to be administered. 'We will contact Lefter Cenaj and Mustafa Leka this week, inviting them to return,' says Shkëlqim Ceka, a member of the Supervisory Council. Mustafa Leka has been absent from Albania for months. For some time now, M. Leka has reportedly been in Turkey - he has promised to return soon. Lefter Cenaj has also not been here when the Albanian administrators began work on October 1. Although he is at liberty, he is in Greece awaiting the trial of a firm with which he had business ties. The only one who returned and did not leave again after the transparency process began is Ferdinant Xhaferri. As for Altin Shehaj, they have never been notified from Albania. Back in Canada, Bashkim Driza and Rapush Xhaferri have expressed a desire to return, but arrest warrants have not been withdrawn for them, and so far the Prosecutor's Office and the Court have made no concessions. 'ProjektJon' turns Tirana into a celebration

ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY Gramoz Pashko and Ardit Gjebrea at the party after the concert (Genc Vymeri) Albanian evenings have begun to change rhythm. On Sunday - in Tirana - in fact things had been repeated constantly, and every day people had enjoyed a great pleasure from the evening gatherings, which had been created by the traffic of bullets. More than 100,000 people 'enjoyed' Projekt Jon; it gave a new rhythm to Albanian evenings. It is not known with certainty - at least by non-professional musicians - at what time Gjebrea has set the rhythms of his melody on the staff. But it can be stated with certainty that what took over the late evening of the second Sunday of this November was no longer the time of the 'biggest crisis in Albania in 1997', which poet Xhevahir Spahiu, who had his share in the weekend rhythms, might perhaps have marked as a 'time of crisis'. So it was a celebration of 'time', the one given by the rhythms of Sunday's concert. A time that drew more than two thousand people seated in the chairs of the Palace of Congresses and many more in front of television screens. Tirana was empty, at last for a fortunate reason. The same happened in other cities. 'It had a lot of success in Vlorë,' a well-known man from the seaside city told me yesterday before the day. The same in Shkodër, Durrës and elsewhere. And that is no small thing. People have finally begun to return to true human pleasures. A tale of shock and stress, a time of lost lives, of confused people and nervous patients, which on Sunday evening seemed most clearly like a bad dream, one that one wishes to be over as soon as possible, always over; undoubtedly a dream in which the staff lines sounded, with another time. A time that had sometimes spread its wings even in the acrobatics of life in recent months, but had by no means managed to envelop so many people in its rhythms. Tirana’s Sundays and Mondays offered a beautiful emptiness in the streets. The silence of the night was broken by the pounding of drums - also a return to tradition - which replaced the overwhelming noise of the rhythms of Albanian evenings, like a flood. Suddenly we are confined to life’s truly beautiful things, which in fact must be sought. In this comment, Radio Television also has its role, as it has supported the recent initiatives of the singers. Art has triumphed over everything. In Gjebrea, where he ran, stretched out, there was an excited audience and music. Facing it, even the 'miserable' had forgotten courtesy and etiquette, surrendering to entertainment. And it is a profoundly human entertainment. We had missed it...

Owners: We cannot raise wages

With the unions Owners: We cannot raise wages TIRANA - Workers' hopes were raised for a possible agreement with employers on wage increases. Yesterday, the minister Sherifi's attempt to officially bring the employers' confederation and the workers' confederation into agreement, in a meeting where a deal for wage increases of up to 20 percent was hoped for, failed. The meeting held at the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Women was not as successful as hoped, although at least initial approval was reached for the social pact proposed by the minister, which, among other things, called for a substantial wage increase. Nevertheless, as always happens, no agreement was reached, and those who will suffer are, as always, the workers of the sector. On page 3

Dokle with 'his back against the wall'

FOR MAZREKU KUKES - The socialists of Has and Kukës have put Namik Dokle 'with his back against the wall'. The 'bone of contention' has been Mazreku. 'Jugobatiku' has been called by several different opponents a 'common criminal', while for us he will continue to remain a deputy and party chairman until the moment he is declared innocent,' those present, especially those from the PS of Has, also made harsh criticism of Prime Minister Nano. Grey signals from Europe for Berisha

'Enough with the road' TIRANA - The European right warns the PD. 'Leave the street and enter Parliament.' The political signals of a new stance, arriving from the EDU and also from the Italian right, were brought by Tritan Shehu. After a series of confidential meetings, the former leader of the PD speaks to Gazeta. Vintonjaku, Fastino, Fini, Butillone. These were some of Shehu’s political interlocutors, who expressed reservations about the current leadership of the PD and the party’s political strategy. Shëhu did not want to go into the details of the talks with the Europeans, but he nevertheless conveyed only some of the most visible signals that had arrived from parties aligned with the PD. Parliament and not the European opposition were two of the most visible reservations of the Italian politicians. On page 2

Gjirokastër, 'the day of disaster'

Flooding from the rare stream The elderly: It comes out of its bed only once every 60 years GJIROKASTER - The Cullo stream, which runs through the western part of the city, has 'grown angry'. Yesterday’s torrential rains turned the small stream, which in most cases remains calm and flows harmlessly through an important part of the stone city of Gjirokastër, into a threat. During the night of yesterday, the Cullo stream came out of its bed for the first time since 1976, causing a partial flood of the city. Debris has been scattered throughout the city, while there have also been damages to the water supply and bursts in the pipelines that were newly installed after the recent unrest. The torrential rains never caused concern in Gjirokastër, because the steep nature of this city has traditionally protected it from any kind of flooding. However, every good thing has its bad side too, which in this case has to do with a great force of nature. The old people say, as do the statisticians, that this stream comes out of its bed only once every 60 years. Thus, after the last surge in '76, the people of Gjirokastër had put their minds at ease and did not expect any surprise from the stream with a gravel bed in the city’s homes. But, as with betrayals, it was precisely from there that they saw on the morning after the night of ninety-seven the surge of the river, the gravel, and especially the angered waters of the stream, caught off guard by the delusion of grandeur. Along the way, like an ancient stream that it is, Cullua does not forget to cause some damage near a meteorological station. Now, after the usual double dose of the old habit, the citizens are no longer quite so sure that in the world everything is going just fine.

The ashes of Arshi Pipa at sea

ASHES OF ARSHI PIPA AT SEA DURRES - The ashes of Arshi Pipa's body are being scattered at sea. At present, his stops in Durrës are cherished by scholars. Known Albanian hands. 'I want you to burn me,' he had said to his relatives, 'and scatter my ashes in the Adriatic.' And so it was done. Thus, a simple ceremony was held near the Monument of Resistance, on the seaside promenade. Professor Arshi Pipa, who passed away at the age of 77, in July of this year, had expressed the wish that his body should 'sail' in the Adriatic at least in the city of Durrës, where he had taught before his imprisonment. The ceremony was organized by the city’s local authorities in cooperation with the 'Durrësi' association. The meeting was attended by a relative of Pipa, intellectuals from Durrës and from Tiranë and Shkodër, who greeted and evoked the life of Arshi Pipa. They quoted what the master of the pen and the word had done during the years of his exile in America for Albanians. Speaking before those present was also Uran Kalakulla, who greeted them on behalf of prominent people. He praised Professor Pipa after Fan Noli and Konica. 'All three were the most distinguished Albanians, who did much for the Albanian cause in exile.' Also offering warm greetings in Shkodër, the order of studies and examination. The Mayor was also present. Afterwards, those present, with the ashes of Professor Pipa, moved away toward the 'Iliria' area, where they were scattered into the Adriatic Sea. ar.k.o.
