“Fatos shkabahu”
Once, in the streets of the city and on the main boulevard of Shkodër, shouts and words against the prime minister were heard. On the right side of the square, where dozens of people were standing, whistles and cries could be heard. Part of the crowd accompanied the passage of the motorcade with insults. Nevertheless, Nano, as soon as he got out of the car, greeted with his hand and continued with the program. He did not stop for polemics, but went straight into the scheduled meetings. Some banners were raised in the air, while the police maintained order. The presence of the security forces was visible, but not excessive.
In the meetings with local government and with heads of institutions, the prime minister learned about the city’s many problems: unemployment, lack of investment, the public-order crisis and the consequences of the unrest. He stressed that Shkodër needs concrete support, but also cooperation. According to him, the government will be present, but solutions must also come from the community itself. “Sort them out yourselves, but you will have us too,” he said.
At the end of the visit, the meeting was commented on as a strong political test for the government and for Nano himself. Shkodër remains a difficult city for the Socialists, but today’s visit was described as an effort to break the political ice with the north.
