Ministers on the guillotine

The changes must be made now; later they will be worthless Corruption scandal: the coalition demands changes "People in government have been feeding it for the last 10 months" Corruption scandal: the coalition demands changes "People in government have been feeding it for the last 10 months" TIRANA - The head of the Democratic Alliance, Neritan Ceka, has called for changes in government as quickly as possible, without sparing the names of ministers, after the publication of the news that the prosecutor’s office is investigating members of the Nano cabinet for corrupt dealings. Since the government is now halfway through its term, according to Ceka serious interventions are needed "to cut short this corrupt affair that has been fed for ten months". If the changes are delayed until later, they will be worthless and routine, Ceka declared. Eight months after the first accusations of government corruption were published in the press, the issue of "involved ministers" also took center stage yesterday at the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Fatos Nano declared for the second time within a few days that his cabinet would face full transparency before the public. "Our opposition to the end to the rule of this majority is being made completely clear. This government must go," declared PD leader Sali Berisha yesterday. In another reaction, the head of the PDS parliamentary group, Genc Pollo, described the scandal as another manifestation of the government’s criminalization. According to him, "this government has lost its moral legitimacy." On page 3

Rinas alarm: US aircraft with civilian risks TIRANA - American aircraft entering our airspace require coordination and entry permission from our authorities in order to enter Albanian airspace, official sources say. It was in civilian traffic and at an altitude that posed a risk to other aircraft. In a reaction yesterday, representatives of Rinas airport said that every military flight must have prior coordination and notification. On page 4

Braggarts

SHPETIM NAZARKO We return to 10 June, the only day when we saw the Albanian pashas with their feet out from under the blanket. The struggle made public by Ambassador Hill and later by his assistant Charles English was bringing to light a simple truth: the old Albanian political class was incapable of building a state. The latter wanted to say even more. He informed us not only of that, but also that the responsibility for the Albanian crisis was known. From that strange day began a frightening game, which brought out evidence of the involvement of many figures in political life with pyramid schemes and other conflicts. Since this truth was coming to light, many thought that the time of justice was approaching. But as the days went by, all the noise dissolved into a suspicious peace. On page 5

Local election defeat, a cold shower for Pollo

Arbnori and Bodo accuse the vice-president over 21 June TIRANA - The debates over the defeat in the local elections, which began in the leadership of the Democratic Party, continued yesterday with intensity in the party leadership and the democratic parliamentary group. Again yesterday, according to sources from the meeting, many MPs judged PD vice-president Genc Pollo and parliamentary group chairman Tritan Shehu to be responsible for the way the 21 June campaign was conducted. On the other hand, Pollo was asked to account for the contacts he had with foreign diplomats and for his recent public statements. At the center of the criticism was also the issue of opposition organization and relations with allies. On page 2
