Kinostudio burns
A historical devilish flame of cinema
Mystery over the cause of the fire. Artists have lost a part of our lives in the blaze
Rudolf Bode against: We must not abandon local government TIRANA. After a powerful fire, the old museum house of Kinostudio "Shqipëria e Re" was engulfed in flames, suffering major damage. The fire broke out last night and, according to witnesses, consumed important parts of the historic building where documents, costumes and material from Albanian cinema were kept. The fire brigade arrived late and could not save everything. Witnesses say the flames spread with unusual speed, creating suspicions of deliberate causes. The Ministry of Culture has promised a full investigation into the event. Artists and old Kinostudio workers have expressed shock. "A part of our lives has burned," they said, recalling that most of the well-known Albanian films were made there. [Parts of the text illegible.] See page 3
The PD plan: Start the boycott of the municipalities
After the Assembly, it intensifies the opposition’s protests
TIRANA. The Democratic Party may completely boycott Parliament, the government and all local government bodies, becoming involved in its political and extremist actions. This emerged yesterday from the meeting of the PD parliamentary group to analyze the progress of its opposition strategy. In the political platform presented by the head of the parliamentary group, Tritan Shehu, it is stated that the parliamentary boycott should be used until it escalates into withdrawal from parliamentary committees, bilateral groups and, within a short period, it should move on to boycotting the executive branch and local government. This platform was rejected by part of the Democratic deputies, but it was not openly opposed. According to Shehu, this strategy will be implemented firmly until it forces the authorities to carry out the PD’s demands. Also, in its immediate plan, the democrats will organize political actions and protests with working groups and mass participation in front of the doors of constitutional institutions, the presidency and the government. The boycott of local government is the final alternative the democrats are putting before the heads of communes and municipalities elected in the latest local elections. As for Parliament, the PD wants to remove its deputies as quickly as possible from the bilateral committees and friendship groups. It was said that these forums create confusion in public opinion and help legitimize the regime. The PD accuses the government of intensifying methods of suppressing the opposition and of using the police to curb protests. [text partly illegible?] See page 9
