Nano: Brokaj should disappear from the PS
Advisor Mediu: I want your vote of confidence
The Prime Minister: Order needs a professional policeman too
Yesterday more than eight hours of quarrels among Socialists in the KPD. Households a new government
The meat dissolves, the bone remains
Prime Minister Fatos Nano held a meeting that lasted about eight hours with Socialist leaders, during which there was heated debate over the composition of the new government and responsibilities after the recent events. Nano accused Interior Minister Brokaj of disappearing from the Socialist Party and called for another figure to handle public order. Mediu also took part in the discussions and asked for a vote of confidence. The text mentions the need for a professional police force and for political reorganization within the PS.
TIRANA - Perhaps for the last time before the TV cameras, when asked by journalists what he would do with the government, Prime Minister Fatos Nano replied with the lapidary phrase: “The meat dissolves, the bone remains.” That means his government will change, but not completely. Perhaps some “bones” will remain from the current executive. This was stated yesterday by the Prime Minister after the marathon meeting, which lasted about 8 hours straight, from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. Even dinner ordered from the “Blue Sky” venue was not missing, accompanying the meeting’s proceedings. Nano appeared before journalists at 1:00 a.m. and declared that “there will be a new government and the new party leadership will decide that.”
Yesterday’s meeting of the Socialist Party leadership, held behind closed doors, was among the most dramatic. It discussed at length the composition of the new government, possible dismissals, and political responsibilities after the unrest of 14 September. Nano spoke harshly about some cabinet figures and, according to sources, focused in particular on Interior Minister Perikli Teta/Brokaj[?], about whom he said he could no longer represent the PS line. The debate also involved voices calling for a deep change in the leadership structures.
At one point Mediu was also mentioned; according to advisers, he asked for a vote of confidence and public clarification of the majority. The Prime Minister stressed the need for public order to be run by a professional policeman and not by politically worn-out figures. The debate was tense, with strong exchanges and mutual accusations over crisis management.
The meeting also discussed the PS’s relationship with its allies, its stance toward the opposition, and how institutional control would be restored after the attack on the institutions. The leadership left open the possibility of reshaping the government, while final decisions are expected from the party’s top structures.

Accusations from Bonn: The material ended up in Kosovo
German counterintelligence services are continuing to verify the details surrounding the wiretapping scandal. The missing material is suspected to have ended up in Kosovo, and the investigation also includes possible ties to the former State Security. At the center of the accusations remains the 1991 structure.

The corn dissolves, the bone remains

Prime Minister Fatos Nano sidestepped yesterday the question of what is happening with the government. Asked by journalists before entering the PS leadership meeting, he answered with a sentence that recalled old proverbs: “The meat dissolves, the bone remains.” At first glance, a quip. But in essence, a cold message to rivals and allies alike, to ministers who may fall and to those who will remain.
In this heated climate after the events of 14 September, the Socialist Party is trying to maintain political control by producing a new government without admitting that the crisis has shaken it to its foundations. Nano seems to want to create the impression of continuity, changing people but not the system; changing faces, but not the bone.
That is the essence of his metaphor. It reveals a way of thinking about power in which individuals are replaceable, but structures are not. Therefore, the government being prepared risks being more of a cosmetic operation than a real response to what happened.
If public order requires a “professional policeman,” as is said in the meeting’s corridors, then the question remains: is replacing one minister enough to restore trust? Or does the system that produced this crisis continue to be preserved under the same political bone?
Nano’s words may sound wise, but the country needs more than aphorisms. It needs responsibility.
Berisha: Condemned the violence of 14 September
“Not for Clinton, I am against TV castes”
The PD leader reacts sharply: “They arrested Spahia too”
TIRANA - “...with the exception of the acts of 14 September...” was the statement cited as part of Sali Berisha’s reaction, in which he commented on political developments and the accusations against the opposition. In his statements, Berisha rejects the way the PD is being treated in the media and denies interpretations that his stance is related to Clinton. He attacks the television “castes” and denounces the arrest of Eqrem Spahia.
