The Constitution, the New Albanian passport

OPINION The Constitution, the New Albanian passport By Kastriot ISLAMI The new Albanian Constitution is not merely a legal instrument that defines the rules of the political game for the elected Parliament and the government that emerges from it. Above all, it is the Albanian hand itself, raised to sign the historic pact, the first milestone in the consolidation of democracy. Its defense must be seen as a shared challenge, as a symbol of political will and civic identity. The Constitution embodies the orientations of the democratic conscience of a country that has left communism and authoritarianism behind and has begun, without yet fully understanding it, what it means to govern by law. For this reason it is expected and must be widely supported, as a guarantee of stability, of the future, and of a clearer hope in the European world. The country’s political elite, and especially the parties that have been opponents, today have the duty to become bearers of a mature reconciliation in the service of the future.
