Although official Belgrade promised to halt the attacks after the killing of the head of the KLA, fighting has continued at the same pace against the civilian population in the villages of Prekaz and Llaushë in Drenica. Belgrade’s military machine has massacred the entire Jashari clan, killing more than 10 men and children from this village. In Skënderaj there is a house that is badly damaged and on the verge of collapsing. The Serbs fired throughout the whole day yesterday in the village of Llaushë in the municipality of Skënderaj. Meanwhile, the Human Rights Organization, based in New York, has called on The Hague to investigate the massacres in Drenica. The Albanian government has also called for an international investigation. Yesterday, Prime Minister’s spokesperson Ben Blushi said that the Albanian government had engaged all diplomatic channels to draw up a package for resolving the Kosovo problem. Meanwhile, ministers Çeka and Brokaj, together with Deputy Speaker of Parliament Dokle and American Attaché Applegate, inspected army troops in Kukës. BREAKING NEWS / EXPLOSION AT “VEVE”

TIRANA - Attack on VEVE? An explosive device detonated next to the company’s headquarters, causing extensive material damage and greatly frightening all the residents of the neighboring apartment building, as well as the guests of Hotel Tirana. It was 21:10 when the terrible explosion was heard across almost all of Tirana. Residents appeared at their windows in fright, while numerous police cars arrived at the scene. There was great fear and panic that someone might have been killed or injured, especially as it was an hour when people were still moving around the city center. A police cordon around the building prevented anyone from going farther, while a vehicle was identified that, according to police, may have been used to throw the explosive device. Police radio reports mentioned a black Mercedes-Benz that had sped away toward Rruga e Durrësit. The car used in the attack is thought to have come from this city. The director of the Tirana police and the deputy director general of the country’s police, Ilir Çano, also went to the scene. “It was mostly an explosion that spread fear and panic among the surrounding buildings. There are no injured people, but there is damage to the VEVE building and the apartment building next to it,” he told Gazeta Shqiptare. People moved around in confusion near the site of the explosion for several minutes and then left. “It was a tremendous blast. We were lucky. We had just left work and were heading into the courtyard; if it had happened a few seconds later, it could have caused a tragedy,” said one of the Hotel Tirana employees, who had still not wiped away her tears of fear. The cause of the explosion and the purpose of those who planted it have not yet been established. an.te.

“I stole after my boyfriend left me”

RARE BUT TRUE TIRANA - “I stole because my boyfriend left me.” This is what the student who stole her friends’ clothes in the dormitory told the judges. Although deeply remorseful for what she had done, the 18-year-old was sentenced to report to the prosecutor’s office once a week. Only a few months earlier she had left her relatives to come to the Student City, but it seems that not everything went as expected. The 18-year-old from Peshkopia, a first-year student in the Faculty of Sciences, experienced great distress the previous day. After her dormitory friends reported the theft, the police searched D.D.’s room. Among her various clothes, they also found a leather jacket, trousers, shoes and 100,000 lire, which had been stolen from one of the rooms in the same building. Caught red-handed, the seventeen-year-old girl was escorted by police to the cold cells of the police station. She was then brought into the courtroom for a decision on the security measure to be imposed on her. Faced with the evidence of this crime, prosecutor Hysa requested that the unusual defendant be required to report regularly. Meanwhile, while also acknowledging her student friends’ account, she tried to excuse herself before Judge Metalia. “My boyfriend had left me and I was in a bad state. I deeply regret what I did,” she said quietly. Within a few minutes, the court issued its decision on the young defendant. Judge Metalia accepted the measure requested by the prosecutor and the prosecution. In this way, the science student will have to miss her lectures once a week to report to the Prosecutor’s Office building. As she left the courtroom, the 18-year-old seemed more relieved. From then on, the police escort would take her only as far as the Student City. Perhaps the girls in her building will soon forget this unpleasant story.
