Some of the owners “do not even know the law protecting copyright, and therefore have not complied with it.” The private radio and television stations have responded to the complaints in various ways. “A law for private media must be passed as soon as possible,” representatives of “Shijak Television” say. The radio stations, meanwhile, claim that “they play only foreign music and avoid frequent interruptions.” “So we have no reason to pay,” various managers say. In any case, everyone must appear before the investigators. On page 2

The buildings nearby were struck with fear and panic; their residents were terrorized by the blast, which shattered the windows of a good number of apartments. Nevertheless, compared with the explosion, the damage was small. The criminalistics experts, who arrived within a few minutes, have still not determined a definitive line of investigation. Meanwhile, the strongest suspicions revolve around a property dispute. A quantity of 19.25 kg of uranium is near the Police Directorate; the blast was heard loudly. This time, the target of the aggressors was the Minister of State for Economic Cooperation and Coordination of Foreign Aid, Ermelinda Meksi, who is currently not in Albania. The people who planted the explosive took advantage of the darkness and the enclosed location of Meksi’s garages. Although the amount of explosive was small, more damage was caused to the windows of the surrounding apartment not an attempt with political overtones, but is very likely related to some property dispute.” Meanwhile, according to residents of the neighborhood, about an hour before the planted explosive went off, lights were seen in the surrounding area, and just a few minutes before the blast, gunshots were also heard. er.di

There are two theories concerning the grave incident. The first is that it was a terrorist act; the second is that it was some kind of revenge against the builder by the residents of the apartment building. On page 7

Kosovo puts Yugoslavia’s World Cup participation at risk

FIFA’S ULTIMATUM ZURICH - FIFA too is concerned about the situation in Kosovo. “If the violence against Albanians does not stop, then we will review Yugoslavia’s participation in the World Cup,” they said. A meeting between the leaders of the highest football authority and the participating teams has put Kosovo in first place. Protests from the Yugoslav representative, but virtually no hesitation on FIFA’s part. Although no concrete decision has been made, a warning has nevertheless been issued. Indeed, it was Secretary General Blatter himself who reacted forcefully. “Today we did not make any decision, but we discussed our future position in the event that the situation there deteriorates further; we will be forced to go as far as extreme measures.” Although he did not say what these extreme measures would be, it was not difficult to understand that they would involve excluding Yugoslavia from the World Cup in France 98. The immediate reaction of the Yugoslav representative himself supported this hypothesis. “It will be a great sin if people like Savicevic, Mijatovic or Stojkovic are allowed to take part. Sport must never be mixed with politics. Politics is one thing and football is another.” Although they were initially harsh, in the end they were forced to “submit” to FIFA. It is true that sport has nothing in common with politics, but one thing is clear: FIFA cannot simply stand by and look on in a situation like this, when the entire international community is concerned about the situation in Kosovo. Thus, it has been the first to make its position known within the framework of sanctions against Yugoslavia.
