Kadare: These politicians are Albania’s misfortune
Without an agreement with the present, there is no future, because the present generates the past; there is no future, there is no present. The misery is that today’s political class has been built on a corrupt network. Democracy in Albania cannot be surrogate democracy, nor can economic development be surrogate economy. For what has happened and is happening in our country, I say with conviction that today’s political class is Albania’s misfortune. This was stated yesterday by the well-known Albanian writer Ismail Kadare. Speaking in a statement for Blendi Fevziu’s program “Opinion”, Kadare said that Albania and Kosovo in 1998, among other things, went through two difficult trials. “In Kosovo there are the events of war and the Serbian repression against the Albanian people, which certainly had an impact. We are living peace and also war, that is the test.” And the second, and more tragic, is that of the political and moral misfortune of our state. “The state failed on several levels. The Albanian state elevated interests above its own. The Albanians of Kosovo, our Albanians, defended Albanianism with more dignity than we did.” According to Kadare, the most blatant situation is that the most serious act committed by the Albanian state is the return of our ambassador from Belgrade. In his view, the same pressure used by communist regimes was applied to Albanian writers. “The boycott the state carries out against journalists is a boycott the state carries out against itself. Faced with the question of whether the Albanian government has fulfilled its obligations toward Kosovo citizens, Kadare said the answer is insufficient. “I do not believe this is the time to praise anyone.”

PS, faction against Nano
The ousted Dade, Brokaj, Shehri and Perpali create the new group
“Our goal is to bypass the prime minister”
The dissatisfied in the circle support the former ministers
From the latest evening of the PS
TIRANA - PS is increasingly turning into an arena where its deep impulses clash, both for central and local power. Sali Petrolli, known as a close man to the chairman of the PS parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, has recently put forward the idea of creating a political “faction” within the party. The chairman of the PS’s spokesperson, Petrolli, has proposed to the presidency advisers that they form another group inside the PS, since they themselves liked to call themselves an “anti-Nano faction”. According to Petrolli, this group could be represented by several former members of the government cabinet, known as opponents of Fatos Nano, especially those who were recently dismissed, such as former deputy prime minister Arta Dade, former Interior Minister Perikli Teta[?], former Transport Minister Ilir Shehi and former Culture Minister Edi Rama[?]. “Several MPs from the Vlora district, who have lost many positions in the last two years, could also take part in this political grouping,” Petrolli said. He also expressed the view that some important figures in government and in the party are losing their influence, and therefore the creation of factions should be seen as an internal necessity. New elections: Berisha gives up
The new tactic of the Democrats
TIRANA - Berisha gives up on protests with two objectives. He has replaced the escalation of the movement against the government and the pressure on the opposition to boycott this legislature with a “boycott of institutions”. This decision has been in line with the recommendations being made by the leaders of the right wing, headed by former Chancellor Helmut Kohl. It is learned that any kind of extremism has also been ruled out, so that if protests are organized in Tirana, they will aim to pressure the executive to postpone local elections, or to revise the constitution. Berisha seems to be playing to buy time for himself and for his alliance, in the context of developments in Kosovo and the balance of forces in the country. PS has tried to “de-factor” him in politics, but, as of late, still counts him as a factor that must be taken into account. According to sources from the blue headquarters, Berisha, together with Pjetër Arbnori, Tritan Shehu, Ylli Vejsiu and others, have recently had meetings with the EPP’s envoy for Albania, Michel Rocard. The former president has declared that the center-right forces in Albania are aligned with the European People’s Party and that there should be no relation whatsoever with the Albanian left. Berisha seems to have understood that he cannot fight all the battles himself, and therefore is moving along a more flexible line. On page 2
