Like the Gaza Strip?

EDITORIAL Andi Bejtja The Serbian threats against Albania must certainly be brought to attention. However, that does not mean that we too should fall into the syndrome of psychosis. This is what the government, and especially its leader, are trying to exploit with calculated hysterics. At the same time, this does not mean that we should not calmly look the truth in the eye. According to Berisha, nothing that is happening in Albania is in order. The country’s image and that of Albanians in foreign opinion is not the one displayed with panic by the government. The state is still standing. That is all as far as Kosovo and the fire Albania has lit in the region are concerned. No one takes Berisha seriously. Meanwhile, the government is doing everything possible to make the crisis route, indirectly, seem serious through hysteria and exaggeration. Albania has no reason to turn into the Gaza Strip, despite whatever desire the Serbs may have toward us. By this I do not mean to minimize or ignore the delicate situation of Albanians in Kosovo. Yes, with all due care we must cling to everyday reality despite the noise of the bogeyman, in order to preserve the country’s image, but also to save the country from this Western reflex of danger. This has been voiced more loudly by the government and more cautiously by the opposition. The government must avoid presenting Albania as the Gaza Strip, while the opposition must not use it as political panic. One thing is the danger from Kosovo, another is turning Albania into a war spectacle.

Here is why the Italian government criticized Tirana for its stance on Kosovo

Rome: Majko, be careful with Kosovo The prime minister’s difficult hours in the bed in Italy[?] The Albanian prime minister acknowledged last night the criticism made yesterday by the Italian government, issued in its public statement, framed and dictated by its own embassy in Tirana, which during these harsh days of conflict and war in the Balkans has still not aligned itself with the desired understanding of the developments that are taking place, said an informed source at Palazzo Chigi. Yesterday and yesterday morning Italian decision-makers were alarmed by several signals coming from Tirana about Albania, and its alignment as a loyal partner of the Turks on the Kosovo issue. Until the publication last night of the statement in the Italian press, a strong warning was focused especially on Prime Minister Majko for his recent statements, for his movements and contacts with military patrols, his Balkan counterparts, and even for the military initiatives he is experimenting with. In Palermo, at the meeting with Council President D'Alema, his invitation also addressed to the USA and Ankara to create a military policy in support of the Albanians of Kosovo was not well received by the Italians. In Palazzo Chigi it is believed that Albania has fallen victim to stubbornness and excessive patriotism on its own part, and they do not look optimistically at its future. The Italian press placed almost all the criticism in the warning's thread, implied through a NATO-5. From Kosovo, it has begun sending strong signals to Western diplomatic centers that Albania is sliding toward an unacceptable solitary ambition. According to Italian officials, this makes Tirana's attention and caution even more necessary. In yesterday’s statement, the criticism was clearly summed up: the Albanian government must not present itself as a direct military party to the Kosovo conflict, nor appear as an actor that fuels regional panic.
