Our brothers are arriving in Kukës at a rate of 4,000 people per hour. So far, 125,000 people have arrived. We would like to shelter all 2 million Kosovars, if we could. But unfortunately, we cannot. Our circumstances are what they are. A week ago, when the war broke out, the Italian state media spoke at length and with great commitment about welcoming refugees fleeing the horrors of Kosovo in southern Italy. The region in question was Puglia. There, facilities for welcoming migrants have been set up since August 1992, and those working to help displaced people have gained experience and organizational skills. A commendable willingness. A week later, on 2 April to be precise, the Italian press and TV stations declared that no refugees would be coming to Italy. The Italian state would only commit to providing them with assistance in Albania. The question is: How can our government declare that it will keep all the refugees in Albania? Continues on page 4
