The Albanian history under the Ottoman Empire should be revised.” This was the statement made yesterday by the historian of this period, Prof. Dr. Ferit Duka. He added that “the revision of history should be carried out by joint commissions of experts, so that the textbooks are cleansed of the inappropriate terminology used when it comes to presenting the history of the peoples of the region, and also when speaking about contacts and relations between them.” During an interview for “Gazeta Shqiptare”, Professor Duka, among the best known for this period, said that history must be stripped of the language of hatred used by politics, because political language lies outside the science of history. “History must be stripped of any offensive labeling of peoples and various social, cultural, etc. groups,” Duka declared, thus becoming the first Albanian to come out in favor of revising the textbooks, after the request made by the Turkish government to that of Kosovo...
