REPORT / The monument’s name in the Valley has been changed; it is now called “The Fortress of Mark” The ambassador in Serbia, Shpëtim Caushaj: Enough with the xenophobia toward Albanians By FATMIRA NIKOLLI The Presheva Valley, a region historically inhabited by Albanians, includes three municipalities, Presheva, Bujanoc, and Medvegja. It is believed that around 50,000-70,000 Albanians live there, but the figure is not certain because they did not take part in the most recent population census conducted in Serbia. At present these three towns are the only ones that remained under the Serbian state, after the declaration of Kosovo’s independence and the breakup of the former Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The Albanians of the Presheva Valley today feel like hostages to the Prishtina-Belgrade talks. The clashes between the two states fall on them. They now share with us the heavy burden of living on their own land but in a foreign state.... On pages 10-11
