The General Director of the Property Restitution and Compensation Agency is to issue a decision within 60 days from the entry into force of the law” By LORENC RABETA The Council of Ministers yesterday approved a series of changes to the law “On the restitution and compensation of property.” Most of the changes concern the methodology for assessing property, now based on market prices, while another amended article extends the process of recognition, restitution and compensation of immovable properties until 30.04.2013, from the previous deadline of 31.12.2011. Another equally important change approved yesterday by the Albanian executive is the creation of the Directorate for the Coordination of the Process of Restitution and Compensation of Property, a structure within the Ministry of Justice. According to the substantial changes, “The assessment of the property to be compensated shall be carried out in accordance with the general principles of real estate valuation, based on market value according to international standards.
