PD, a new initiative for opening the files By VALENTINA MADANI The Minister of Justice, Eduart Halimi, announced yesterday that around 21,000 requests have so far been submitted to the offices of the Ministry of Justice, of which 4,000 requests are for barbed wire and internment; 11,500 requests have been approved and have received the first installment, 2,000 requests are excluded without trial. Minister Halimi informed that the Institute of the politically persecuted and their associations have requested an expansion of the scope of classification of the crimes of communism, while expressing the government’s will to fully compensate them. “We are determined to compensate the persecuted. Every person who has been hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for political reasons will receive a sum of 2,000 lekë for each day of stay. The number of such cases is estimated at around 200 people. The persecuted have an extraordinary dialogue with the government...” Continues on pages 2-3
