CAPTAIN: WE ARE ROTTING IN YEMENI PRISONS

INTERVIEW/ ARIF BAKILLARI: THEY WANT OUR WEAPONS, THEY ARE UNDER EMBARGO The three Albanians were sentenced to 18 years in prison for arms trafficking; here is the route of the ship “EOS” over the last 6 months. The officer who arrested them told him: “I like the cargo” By AURORA KOROMANI “We will rot in Yemeni prisons if the Albanian authorities do not help us.” These are the words that the captain of the ship seized some time ago in Yemeni waters, Arif Bakillari, states for “Gazeta Shqiptare”. He says that they are being accused of unfounded charges, while he and the other two Albanians are innocent. “The reason they arrested us is because Yemen wanted to seize our ship’s cargo. We are innocent.” Among other things, Bakillari also recounts the entire route taken by the ship he commanded, adding that throughout the entire time they were being monitored by NATO forces. How many years were you sentenced to? We were all sentenced to 6 years in prison each, on false charges. It is a political case. I myself am in hospital. We have appealed the verdict because all the accusations they are making are baseless. They are accusing us of having entered without permission... Continues on page 7
