The Albanian ambassador to Greece, Dashnor Dervishi, explains to “Gazeta Shqiptare” that Greece has not made the resolution of the maritime pact a condition for Albania’s full membership in the EU. According to him, statements by Greek Foreign Minister Venizelos have been misunderstood. He has also clarified other issues, such as place names and the Greek side’s oil exploration in the Ionian Sea. Mr. Dervishi, a few days ago, at the close of the Greek Presidency of the EU, Greek Foreign Minister Venizelos made the resolution of the maritime pact with Albania a condition for opening negotiations for full membership in the EU. Could you comment on this? First of all, I want to say that Venizelos’s statement, made at the close of the Greek Presidency of the European Union, at the ceremony organized for that occasion, has not been understood correctly.
