When Pierre-Bordeaux Groult, the historian and founder of an important foundation, told me it was time for the two of us to make a trip to Rome, more precisely, to the Vatican, to present there several Balkan issues, mainly those of the Albanian nation, I had every reason, despite my desire for “strict literary” commitments, to say “yes” on the spot. It was moving, of course, that a gentleman said to be eighty years old would show such a passion for a part of Europe where he had never been, and above all for small Albania, about which most Europeans had a poor opinion; it angered him so much and made him cling even more tightly to the final wager of his life: to overturn this opinion.
