The brutal murder of the Albanian prisoner Ilia Kareli (Kudret Kume) in the Sigritas prison in Greece triggered a civic “revolt” in Tirana. Hundreds of young people, mostly members of “Tifozët Kuq e Zi” and activists of Aleanca Kuq e Zi, took to the streets yesterday afternoon in protest. With Albanian flags in their hands, the protesters sang the National Anthem and meanwhile tore up a Greek flag and then set it on fire. The protest began in front of the Pyramid and then moved to Kavaja Street, near the embassy block. Right there, the participants in the rally began to protest and chant in unison, even using insulting words against the Greek state. The special unit “Shqiponja” immediately intervened, using rubber batons to disperse the protesters. As a result, 16 protesters were injured. Meanwhile, 26 others were escorted, among them the head of the youth wing of Aleanca Kuqe Zi, Ardit Meksnjiqi, and the vice-president of AK, Albert Mesiti. ... Continues on page 7
