The gruesome killing of the Albanian prisoner Ilia Kareli (Kudret Kume) in the Sigritas prison in Greece provokes a civic “revolt” in Tirana.
Hundreds of young people, mainly members of “Tifozët Kuq e Zi” and activists of Aleanca Kuq e Zi, took to the streets in protest yesterday afternoon. With Albanian flags in their hands, the protesters sang the National Anthem and meanwhile tore a Greek flag and then set it on fire. The protest began in front of the Pyramid and then moved to Kavaja Street, near the embassy block. There, the participants in the gathering began to protest and shout in chorus, even using insulting words against the Greek state. The special unit “Shqiponja” intervened immediately, using rubber batons to disperse the protesters. As a result, 16 protesters were injured. Another 26 were taken into custody, among them the head of the Youth of Aleanca Kuq e Zi, Ardit Mekshiqi, and the deputy head of AK, Albert Mesiti. ... Continues on page 7
