The gist of the article is not true The Speaker of Parliament, Ilir Meta, has canceled his planned visit to the United States because of the schedule of diplomatic meetings in Tirana. Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan will be in Tirana on 14 May and, in a special address, will greet the Parliament of Albania. Meta’s visit to Washington was scheduled to take place precisely on that date. The postponement of the transatlantic flight was interpreted by the opposition as a slammed door in Albania’s face because of its governance. “He has been denied the visit and all meetings have been canceled,” wrote yesterday the official mouthpiece of the PD, “Rilindja Demokratike”. Everything is linked to “the oil trade that Albania did with Iran by breaking the UN embargo,” explains the PD newspaper. And further: “Does the refusal of Meta’s visit to the USA have anything to do with the return of Enverist symbols in the country with the approval of the government majority?” asks rhetorically the former deputy foreign minister,...
