DOSSIER / THE SCANDAL EXPOSED BY “GSH”, THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE SENDS IT TO COURT CHARGE AGAINST GERVENI The rear admiral faces 2 years in prison The former deputy chief of the General Staff will be tried for “Acceptance of favors by a serviceman.” He unlawfully wore the rank insignia of Admiral at NATO meetings By KLODIANA LALA The Tirana прокуратура brings charges against the former military representative to NATO, Kristaq Gërveni, on the accusation of “acceptance of favors by a serviceman,” according to Article 72 of the Military Penal Code. Gërveni had “self-promoted” himself to the higher rank of ADMIRAL and, during bilateral NATO meetings, he wore on his military uniform the insignia of the higher rank, which by law did not belong to him. By decree of President Bamir Topi, as military attaché, Gërveni had been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral, but despite this he wore, in violation of the law, a higher rank, that of “Admiral.” The scandal was denounced by “GSH”, which published both the report and photos showing Gërveni using the rank of Admiral in bilateral and high-level meetings. After the publication by “GSH”, the Ministry of Defence filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office against the former serviceman Gërveni. According to the law, he faces a fine or up to 2 years in prison... On page 9
