Socialist Party MP Tom Doshi sharply criticized yesterday the Minister of the Interior, Saimir Tahiri, regarding what he said were political appointments in the State Police. Doshi accused Tahiri of appointing blue-uniformed officers only from Tepelena, comparing him to Berisha, who, according to him, appointed only people from Tropoja. The Socialist MP expressed these views at the meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, where the draft law “On the State Police” was being discussed. “It is said that the State Police is independent, whereas I say that the State Police is political. The minister makes the appointments, and the facts show that all the leaders in the police today are from Tepelena. They really do not exist in the State Police. Then, all these proposals and appointments he makes are all political. If it comes down to it, the Minister of Public Order is a political post. The powers belong to the General Director. Then, for me, the General Director has no powers. Even for a corporal he has to ask the minister for permission...
