Before asking this question, we must first ask whether or not this social category exists in our Republic, a category that embodies the ugliest vices of society in general. Unfortunately, the answer to this question is yes. Every day we hear of the most monstrous crimes, theft, terror, and unprecedented destruction. And their perpetrators are Albanian citizens. These people may be the ones who will go to the ballot box on March 22. In other words, they too will vote—not all of them, of course, but the vast majority, who walk free, still not restrained by the competent authorities. So the question arises: Who will these people give their vote to on March 22? If one were to be alert and act with a vested interest in some particular party, the answer would come like lightning, without pausing for a moment or making a deduction. It is a fact that the above category, represented by criminals, thieves, terrorists, etc., did not suddenly appear in Albania, but has existed since the time of the dictatorship. Even under the dictatorship, we heard no little about analogous cases ... (unfortunately, all those who had a weakness of character were affected, since it is known: Where there is poverty, there is crime, just as where there is happiness, there is humanity. It is a fact that in the early days of the nationwide anti-communist movement in our country, seeing that the foundations of the Albanian state were being shaken, this social category tried to exploit to the utmost the fog that had been created, putting into practice the old saying that “the wolf seeks fog.” And it achieved its aim. Depraved acts increased at a galloping pace, now encouraged by political instability and the paradoxical absence of the rule of law. It was hardly surprising that things turned out this way. Through their media, the communist rulers tried to convince ordinary people: “Beware of democracy; it is ugly! Want proof?” And on the communist screen, for the first time in 47 years, we began to see the faces of criminals, as if they had learned their trade only today (!). Communist propaganda, once again, did not ... even dream of civil war, from which they alone would profit in their lowly trades. And profit they did. During this period, innocent people were killed; homes, individuals, shops, and warehouses were robbed and looted; schools were destroyed; humanitarian aid was stolen; entire herds of livestock were seized until even a livestock exodus began; works of art were subjected to inquisition, and so on and so forth. Once again, the Party of Labor—which had built its name, I don’t know how ... and for what reason had changed its name to the Socialist Party—tried to convince people that the democracy the opposition, and especially the DP, would bring us had the face of crime, while declaring itself honest and having nothing in common with vandals. Thus the PS has been passing these people off for 30-odd days of campaigning, depending on the circumstances. And so they too will vote alongside us! But which party, pray, will they give their vote to?! In my opinion, it is time to say that this social category also belongs to the electorate of the Socialist Party. Criminals, thieves, terrorists, smugglers, speculators, and vandals will vote for the ... Socialist Party. This is logical. This stratum cannot possibly vote for the democratic opposition, because its coming to power would mean the return of democracy; it would mean law, and this category is very much afraid of the law. This category of people will vote for the Socialist Party, because PS rule means instability, absence of laws, chaos, and anarchy, all of which will encourage them endlessly. It must only be stressed that by voting for the PS, this category of people is thus using up its last chance to survive, because the victory of democracy will, among other things, punish crime once and for all. Even under the dictatorship we heard a great deal about cases analogous to what is happening today in the towns and villages, indeed much more, but the communist propaganda had no interest in publishing them, because it wanted to present itself as a perfect system of socialist democracy. But the opposite was happening: The so-called pure socialist democracy, which preached peace and practiced violence, preached brotherhood and practiced division, preached happiness and brought misfortune to people, served as fertile ground for preparing those who became such ready contingents for carrying out ugly and countless deeds, which made the blood of honest Albanians run cold. In short, the failed system applied for four decades by the Party of Labor, with Enver Hoxha at its head, served as a school of depravity, in which ... ...burned after this most shocking period, as well as reports of killings, beatings, rapes, humiliations, and robberies of Albanians by the Greeks, the Human Rights Defense Forum protests against the Albanian Parliament’s lawful removal of Omonia. At the same time as the Albanian Forum’s protest in favor of the Greeks (this is the same humanitarian Forum that has never opened its mouth about the mistreatment of Albanians beyond the borders), a senior Greek official calls the person burned with napalm a pseudo-witness... The shamelessness goes even further when it comes to making the anti-national mechanism work as effectively as possible. “Zëri i Popullit,” this rag which for forty-six years sang the praises of Tito, Stalin, Ranković, Popović, Sihanouk, and Comrade Enver, has astonishing experience in humiliating and selling out the homeland for the sake of a few nostalgic power-holders. Precisely now, when Milošević finds time to meet with Mitsotakis and declare that Northern Albania belongs to Serbia, while the South belongs to Vorio Epir, “Zëri i Popullit” writes against the intellectual leaders of Albanian national consciousness, Rexhep Qosja and Ibrahim Rugova. Even the Serbian imagination, trained on Albanian blood, would not have dared to go further than this! Precisely now, when new borders for Albania are being plotted in the ill-omened cities of frenzied chauvinists, new demographic calculations are being made too: 600,000 of us are classified as Aromanians, 1 million as Greeks, half a million as Macedonians! If we add the other national minorities living in Albania, it turns out they number 3.6 million, while Albania itself has only 3.2 million inhabitants. What was broken at the beginning of this century, specifically in 1913, is now being hastily preserved and consolidated with an insistence that is as tragic, painful, macabre, and grotesque as it is. A few days ago, Albanian television showed the image of a citizen burned with napalm by the Greeks. There you have it: at long last, Albanians have become Vietnam in 1968. Cambodia, Laos. It turns out that, to complete this negative balance, we must take half a million Albanians from our diaspora around the world so that we may no longer be considered in debt in our own lands... Paradoxically, the anti-national clan seems to be governing Albania, at least for now. The Aromanians have now joined the Greek minority, whose members wish to recall what they suffered at the hands of Albanians; the people call the Aromanians llaci-façe. We recall that distinguished figures have emerged from the Aromanian clan, such as Rita Marko, Lenka Cuko, Prokop Murra, Simon ... Stefani, Kopi Kyçyku, Androkli Kostallari... In the greatest irony of all, the director of the Institute of the Albanian Language for 30 years was the Aromanian Androkli Kostallari. A grotesque charlatan like Kopi Kyçyku, who only a few years ago was accused by an English researcher visiting Albania of attempted rape, is now also trying, with his idiocies, to violate the national honor of Albanians. This common criminal, who has also been accused of stealing a monograph about Ataturk (translating it and submitting it for publication as his own original book), makes an alliance with the servile little writer with a red Pioneer scarf, the diminutive Odise Grillo, a Greek concerned about the fate of Vorio Epir. But the wisdom of the Latins teaches us that “one donkey rubs another,” and so anti-national alliances are formed on terms that one cannot begrudge them! Kopi Kyçyku teaches his Vlach Odise the Vlach language; the Pioneer, a versifier with a bottle in his mouth for Uncle Enver, while Odise Grillo—after theorizing that imagination is anti-socialist, and consequently writing fairy tales about Uncle Tractor-driver and Uncle Tractorist—is now trying to get Kopi Kyçyku, the Vlach, the llaci-façe, to adapt his fairy-tale characters into a Greek version! Surely this time the eternal failure Odhise will not fail, and this will be his first success—and an unauthentic one at that. A secure foothold for the law Terror and anxiety are once again seeking to make an appearance on the eve of the elections through killings, robberies, and violence. Let us mention some of last week’s news: A teacher in Shkodër was stabbed in the heart because he was defending the dignity of one of his pupils. Hungarian humanitarian aid was put on the road where the embassies are located, at a time when it is known that the relevant documents had not been properly completed. Humanitarian aid and transport were placed in the army’s respective warehouses. And many people ask, with a hint of irony: Is this democracy? This is a fair question for ... what is happening now in the city and what is happening at the same time ... More or less, people have heard about tobacco smuggling during the Enverian dictatorship. When did it begin? What scale did it reach? A deep haze surrounds the event and certain people. But some details make it possible to see what has been concealed. In 1973, cigarette packaging began to be printed at the Cartographic Enterprise in Tirana. These were not unknown brands; rather, because they were very well-known, this also caused surprise. At the head of these brands was American “Malboro,” which sold for three dollars a pack in foreign markets. This printing continued from 1973 for many years. So, considering the length of time, it is clear that we are talking about an extraordinarily large print run, since within a single year the number printed reached millions. What was this “Malboro” packaging doing in our country, when it was officially known that our state had no commercial ties of any kind (not even through third parties) with the American state?
