AZEM HAJDARI IS BEING REMOVED FROM ALBANIA,
GRAMOZ PASHKO IS BEING CUT OFF FROM THE PD GROUP!
WHO IS NEXT NOW?
For his initiative and for his contribution to the democratization of the country, the overthrow of the dictatorship and its condemnation, Azem Hajdari has been valued and respected as an activist and a courageous man, irreconcilable with evil. All this has made him so widely mentioned today. Somewhere among those who were all removed for lack of-
we mentioned him with hope, but those hopes have not proved true; instead, it turned out that his political activity is disliked by the government in power. And apparently, this difficult mission that Hajdari and Azem Pashko [?] have taken upon themselves to carry out is becoming unbearable for certain circles, not because of democracy, but because of certain dominations they are now going on to impose in the country. It seems they too must be removed for lack of-
In a short section of our paper called “instead of opinion,” we continue to call it by its proper name: political removal. After the failure of the last meeting of the democratic parliamentary group, Azem Hajdari submitted his resignation from the post of chairman of the parliamentary public order commission, and also from the post of member of the presidency of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party. He had previously won these positions through a vote in the parliamentary group; nevertheless, his resignation came after pressure exerted on him at the group meeting. This is not the first time Azem Hajdari has been the target of political attacks. Since the student movement, he has become a symbolic figure of anti-communism and often the object of fierce polemics.
At the same time, Gramoz Pashko has been removed from the parliamentary group of the PD. The news of his departure has caused numerous reactions, since he is one of the key figures in the founding of political pluralism in Albania and one of the best-known leaders of the former anti-communist opposition. His departure from the PD group constitutes a serious political development and raises many questions about the future of the main ruling force.
Is this the beginning of a new political purge within the right wing? Is the country moving toward sidelining the figures who played a decisive role in overthrowing the communist system? These questions arise naturally as talk circulates in public opinion of new clashes, deep disagreements, and an atmosphere that is becoming increasingly unacceptable for differing views.
What is happening to Azem Hajdari and Gramoz Pashko cannot be seen as merely a personal matter. This is an event of political weight, affecting not only the Democratic Party but also the balance of the entire public life of the country.
