While TV counts the aid sent to the flood victims in Lezhë, the PD Youth Forum spends more than 810,000 new lek just on feeding the delegates
— To host the delegates, three hotels in Durrës and one in Tirana are reduced to dormitory-style arrangements.
— In the delegates’ house, 25 buses are put in place, as well as police escort and a disco during the movement.
Without leaving any room for criticism or interpretation, it must be said that the envoy of the PD Youth Forum organization states that “the representatives of the Albanian democratic youth spared no financial means” and that “the proceedings of the Congress of the PD Youth Forum were conducted in a very economical and efficient manner.” No one can say anything definite about this, but what can be said is how true this statement has been.
According to the information made available to us by a government minister, such an action was taken at a time when the country is in a severe economic situation, when citizens in the flooded areas need aid, and when many institutions are barely surviving. This bitter comparison makes the eager staging of this youth event even more serious. In the afternoon broadcasts of this week, TV was showing the counting of aid sent to Lezhë, while in Tirana costly dinners, transport and entertainment were being organized for the forum delegates.
From the document we have seen, and considering the spending on 400 delegates, it seems perhaps the most Dominican of things if one thinks that even the Democratic Party apparently is not so rich as to have borne such an expense, but as official sources tell us, the payments were made by the executive power. This is the bitter truth, because everyone who uses public wealth in this way, even if some justify it by the national character of the event, cannot help but alarm public opinion.
Azem Hajdari was at the congress from the very first day. Thus, it seems, all this enthusiasm over the organization and the expenses incurred also had another political dimension beyond party formality. It involved dinner, accommodation, transport and movement expenses that made this gathering of young delegates more of a show of force than a forum for discussion.
Azem Hajdari was at the congress from the very first day, seated with his back to the podium. Seated at his sides were one person representing foreign interests and another representing the party. Azem Hajdari almost followed this gathering with complete composure.
The presence of the Minister of Public Order in the hall was seen as a sign of strength. In this respect, we would say that for the first time a youth congress took on features that do not usually belong to a free youth organization, but to a structure subordinated to political power.
The Miss Albania girls are celebrated as servants at the PD Youth Forum congress
From what we can understand, at least on TV on the evening of 21 December, the organizers of the fourth congress for the Christian Democratic Party section and for services at the PD Youth Forum congress preferred several well-known girls. Likewise, the girls were told to spend the whole time in the dormitory so that they could accompany the delegates without moving. The organizers did this service for them for a small payment and by promising that they would benefit more from public exposure. It is clear that this form of organization leads to the conclusion that the selection was made for image, not for dignity.
Among the invitees, names from the entertainment world such as Greta Hiti, who seems to have taken part in various events, were also mentioned as being involved in a publicity scheme. In other cases, this kind of activity would be called promotion. But in a political congress of a party that claims to lead Albanian youth, this kind of parade runs counter to the morality they themselves preach. Young people did not need such services, but debate and ideas.
Azem Hajdari: appears at the FPPD congress
With the things being brought together by autogerë, Azem Hajdari comes to the daily conclusion. Based on the statements of most of the testimonies, in this post-congress phase, if we follow it to the end, deb [?] have made it known to everyone that he is the man who brought the forum structures closer to what he later said [?] he minimized, and all this in a more restrained reaction than might have been expected. In this bleak conclusion we are dealing with a political tool that aims to present his figure as untouchable.
Azem Hajdari entered through a long procession of vehicles, escorted by police patrols. Such movement for a youth meeting, especially a closed one, is more reminiscent of ceremonies for senior state officials than of a party organization. This display is another indicator that the privileges of power have been unconsciously transferred to the promoters of this activity.
Former persecuted persons face difficulties
According to a notice received from the Association of the Politically Persecuted, through its representatives, it is learned that unfair actions continue to be taken in the distribution of money to former prisoners. The number of persecuted persons who have received money remains unspecified, while some of them do not appear at all on the official lists. Another part has problems in the distribution of the funds, especially those who have been examined without full clarification, which requires clarification in each case.
Some in this category have stated that additional documents are being requested from them even when their files are complete. This has increased dissatisfaction, because many of them are elderly and find it difficult to follow all the procedures. The association’s leadership has called for transparency and for favoritism to be avoided. “If we do not have equal treatment, we will not stop denouncing it,” its statement says.
President Berisha opposes PD deputies
Recently the government of the government has been formed, sacrific— to the right to complain by those, among—while apparently, we understand that even in the further meeting and bitterness—what a violation and advice? and more so of this pro—adoption. The night of the delegates. The prime minister’s order! The congress began without clarifying all this. It is known that President Berisha initially supported this move, but later changed his position. At the same time, it is learned that some PD deputies did not agree with the way this activity was prepared.
29 November, the day of the 5th victory, together with—those, the President of the Republic Sali Berisha yesterday refused to sign the decree in question. The absurdity of the decision? because according to TV, a group is needed over there. According to TV, a group is needed over—
Such moves have created the impression that there is a clash between the institutions and the party regarding the spending and organization of the forum. It remains to be seen whether this disagreement will produce political consequences in the coming days.
The Italian ambassador has been accused of ties with Fatos Nano, the socialist leader
The Italian newspaper “Il Giornale”, editor Stefano Menguardi, on 18 December, directly accuses the Italian ambassador in Tirana, Torquato Cardilli, of ties with the leader of the Socialist Party and prisoner for insulting the state in Rome. The two men alluded to are well known in Rome. Italy is applying pressure through several representatives and, after several reports, “Il Giornale” raises the question of why such treatment is being given. Azem Hajdari is accused of having been instrumentalized in this debate. The article speaks of the use of the Albanian question within the framework of the interests of Italian politics.
Various reactions from diplomatic circles are also mentioned, but without official confirmation of the full content of the accusation. This version published on the front page of “Il Giornale” appears to have aroused interest in Tirana, where relations with Italy remain sensitive. The chairman of the budget committee of the budget [sic] himself, Cardilli.
