THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE DP IS A WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION. According to our reliable sources, we learned that Azem Hajdari, an MP and one of the most prominent figures in the Albanian democratic movement in recent years, is due to stand trial on 4.2.1993. We later verified this fact through two sources, via his lawyers and Mr. Hajdari himself. What is striking in this case is the way proceedings are being conducted, since, to everyone's great surprise, the distinguished MP is accused of a criminal offense and expected to be sentenced for corruption and large-scale abuses. Nothing of the sort: the entire accusation centers on an insult allegedly directed at an employee of the Democratic Party administration. We asked Mr. Hajdari about this matter so that he could explain it to us more fully, and he told us, very calmly: «Can't you see that this is a fabricated accusation». He was very calm, explaining that, in essence, this absurd accusation has a predetermined political purpose. On the contrary, he was showing complete confidence in what he was saying. Investigating this matter in this way, we found that the entire accusation was unconvincing, since, to our astonishment, we discovered that one of the prosecution's principal witnesses is Mr. Tomor Dosti, the secretary-general of the Democratic Party. A very interesting fact, because this must surely be the first case in the history of the political parties of free Europe in which the secretary-general of a party is a witness against the deputy chairman of that same party. It is clear, then, that this is a political struggle, and a particularly amateurish one. (Continued on page 4)

From Greece As our journalist Martin Leka informs us by telephone from Greece, a few days ago a Greek television personality in Janina killed three Albanians. The motive for the killing was robbery. The most horrifying part was that, before killing one of the Albanians, the Greek had cut off both of his legs with an electric saw. In recent days, on the island of Rhodes, a group of Albanians tried to rape an English tourist. Greek police have arrested and detained 12 Albanians in connection with this. According to Greek television, all 12 detained Albanians broke through the ceiling of the room where they were being held and escaped; the police then launched another pursuit and caught them.

The prosecutor of Skrapar who conducted the trial concerning the Polican incident, Mr. Luan Kaloci, is placed on assistance immediately after the hearing of this case.
