Representatives of Omonia and PDNJ According to information received by the editorial office late in the evening of April 18, as well as yesterday morning, leading figures of the political organization «Omonia» and of the parliamentary party for the Protection of Human Rights (PDNJ) were detained by police in several southern districts of the country, as well as in Tirana. As is now known, the political organization «Omonia» includes the Greek minority among its ranks, which, with its votes, sent this association to the first pluralist Albanian parliament with six deputies. However, ahead of the March 22 elections, associations could no longer participate in elections as electoral subjects. The Greek minority organization was represented before the electorate through the newly created PDNJ party. In the end, this party won two seats in parliament, as well as the right to be called a parliamentary party and to receive a modest state subsidy. «Our party (PDNJ) is a party of all Albanian citizens, regardless of nationality,» explains Mr. Vasil Melo, the party chairman, giving examples con- (Continued on page 3)
