Greece sets conditions for dialogue with Albania
Berisha: “We invite Greece to begin talks in a third country”
During the meeting with the commission for peace and stability in the Balkans, Albanian President Sali Berisha declared that the state he leads and the government backing him are interested in talks with Greece, but he described Athens’ clause on the issue of Vorio Epir, without recognition of the Republic of Albania, as unacceptable. “Under no circumstances, to my knowledge, is the Albanian side to begin talks without recognition of the Republic of Albania and recognition of its borders,” Berisha said. In contrast, the Athens government has asked the Albanian side for direct talks, after the neutralization of the Greek government, the lifting of the state of war, and discussion of Greek demands regarding the minority. In New York, he had the democratic entry into the matter with Mr. Never, chairman of the Democratic Party of Slovenia, and the country’s foreign minister, Jelinç, for a trade agreement. On 29 September 1994 the Prime Minister of Greece will be Billmoro in Albania, while the Greek president, Karamanlis, has withdrawn with the Greek president a visit carried out in Tirana on 1 July. Revizi, the chairman of Greece, declared yesterday in Tirana that “the final year up to the declaration of replacing conditions for any kind of declaration by the Tirana government.” In a similar question session, Berisha said that “the problem seeks dialogue, and this makes dialogue incomparable and necessary.” “Ortella also has the title of dialogue, but the condition for entering dialogue is to renounce any territorial claim and any project of annexation,” he emphasized. To carry out dialogue, Berisha said, the Albanian side has not, on its part, imposed any condition, apparently, at such a moment regarding the Greek minority. Athens has set conditions, and in order to implement them, it is turning from aggressive moves.
