Arben Lika is released

The PD deputy leaves Tirana prison cell TIRANA- For the former youngest deputy in the Albanian parliament, Arben Lika, there are no more days in prison. Yesterday in the early hours of the morning, he crossed the threshold of unit 313 in Tirana, which had been his “home” for the last 11 months. Convicted of cigarette smuggling and forgery, he now, at least legally, has no legal obstacle to returning to his seat in the Albanian Parliament. The former 27-year-old chairman of the youth forum of the P.D and its deputy left Tirana prison yesterday morning at 09:00. After being deprived of freedom for nearly a year, he first strolled in the first moments after regaining his freedom in the city of “Studenti”. Lika was arrested at the end of October last year, just three days after Parliament had voted to lift his parliamentary immunity, following a request by the Tirana prosecutor’s office, which charged him with criminal prosecution. The accusation against him was “smuggling of “Arda” cigarettes, in the amount of 30 thousand dollars, and forgery of documents”, in cooperation with Dashnor Shenaj, Edmond Meçe and Hajredin Halili. The Tirana Court in April of this year sentenced the former deputy to 10 years in prison. The Court of Appeal sentenced him to 3 years in prison, while the Court of Cassation fixed his sentence at 14 months in prison. Having served the sentence for the offense with which he was charged, according to jurists there is no legal obstacle to Lika’s return to the P.D parliamentary group in the People’s Assembly. A.P

The Greek government predicts 180,000 residence permits

Toward legalizing immigrants in Greece “The Greek government intends to issue 80,000 permanent residence permits for Albanian refugees and 100,000 limited-term permits,” reports the German newspaper Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, which cites official sources in Athens. According to this plan, it is being discussed that among the around 300,000 Albanian clandestine emigrants in Greece, 80,000 of them may consider themselves lucky, since they will be granted the right to permanent residence. As for another 100,000, an employment project called the “brigade system” is being considered. Under this system, the first 100,000 people will benefit and will have the right to work in Greece for only 6 months and then return to Albania. These permits would be renewed, but for another 100,000 emigrants. One still disputed aspect is the right of these emigrants with permits to move around Schengen countries. Although Serreqi’s seasonal employment project failed, it seems that the signing of the agreement will be imminent. EM.BA.

The army will withdraw from the coastline

The decision of the Italian government Three weeks ago the Italian government postponed, for the second time, by another three months, the deadline for the army units’ stay in the coastal area of Puglia. As is known, these units were sent there last May, with the task of stemming clandestine emigration from Albania. Yesterday, the Council of Ministers of Italy decided that there would be no further extension of the deadline, so in December the operation “Safe Border” will end, regardless of the results. It seems that this decision was influenced precisely by the results, which were not at the hoped-for level. The objective was to eliminate the phenomenon of clandestine emigration. But the maximum achieved was only a not very significant reduction in the flow of emigrants. Meanwhile, according to local media, about 1 billion lire a day were spent on keeping the army there, so for only the first three months an amount equal to the three-year aid allocated to Albania was spent. This government decision has not been well received by right-wing parties, but Mr. Dini’s government does not appear inclined to change its stance.
