“...we arrive at Bënçë prison. A small prison, where the cold wind never stops blowing, even though the sunny day reminds you of a spring day—if you were in Tirana... We have to wait about two hours beyond the iron gate. Although the prison director has our authorization in his hands, he will not let us meet with the imprisoned socialist leader. His fierce appearance and haughty gaze seemed to say to us: ‘Go away, get out of here’... We did not understand the persistence of the director of Bënçë prison in cancelling the meeting, and we nearly lost our patience. Worse still, the chief director would not even give us a reason for refusing?!... ‘I know the rules here!’ the director shouted, with a fierce look... While our patience beyond the iron gate had reached ‘breaking point’, the policeman opened the large gate at the prison entrance. We entered the prison grounds under the ‘escort’ of three other policemen, who stayed very close to us. They searched us thoroughly, and we went into the small visiting room.
