180 officers of the Southern Division are dismissed

By order of Minister Zhulali Another 40 cuts are also expected GJIROKASTËR - For the fourth time in a row, career officers are being shaken by cutbacks. 180 officers of the Southern Division, based in Gjirokastër, learned yesterday that they are no longer part of the Albanian armed forces. The order for their dismissal arrived yesterday at the command of the Gjirokastër division and was signed by Minister Zhulali himself. According to some sources, the long list of names of the 180 officers dismissed from the Gjirokastër division will be expanded in a few days by another 40 names. The dismissals of officers from the Gjirokastër division have followed other cutbacks that the Ministry of Defense carried out in other divisions of the country, as well as in Shkodër and Korçë some time ago. All these cutbacks bear Minister Zhulali’s signature. Since March 1992, the time when the PD came to power, this is the fourth time that cutbacks have been carried out in the ranks of the Albanian army. At that time, with his first intervention as Minister of Defense, Zhulali declared that compulsory military service for all Albanian citizens would be reduced to one year and the number of active officers and non-commissioned officers would reach 60% of the existing total. After that statement, in the name of army reform, the ranks of the Albanian army have been hit by successive cutbacks. ILIR BABARAMO
