Unrest in Ioannina prison Twenty prisoners escape Most of them Albanian Another mass escape from Greek prisons, with Albanians once again playing the leading role, was reported yesterday afternoon at the Stavrakiu prison in Ioannina. About 20 people, most of them Albanian, got out into the “open air.” According to Ioannina police sources, which Koha Jonë contacted at midnight, 4-5 people were injured in the fire that broke out in the prison, 3 of them Albanian citizens, who are out of danger in the “Haxhikosta” hospital in Ioannina. The other prisoners, who were unable to escape, set fire to their bedding on the first floor of the prison building, a fire that was extinguished after the fire brigade intervened. On the Ioannina-Athens road, as well as on the road leading toward the Greek-Albanian border, strict police checks have still not produced any results. We note that another escape, of 9 Albanian prisoners, had taken place ten days earlier at the Kassandra prison, near Thessaloniki. BOB STOUN Athens
