Yesterday, with the signature of the chief prosecutor of the Tirana district court, Mr. Myqerem Tafaj, the case file against 13 police and prison employees, accused of abuse of office and of having favored the escape of prisoners from Tirana prison, was closed, along with the 20 detainees who were captured. Sources from the Tirana District Prosecutor’s Office told “Koha Jonë” that the case of the 6 escaped prisoners who were captured after several days has been separated. A separate proceeding may be brought against them for bravery.
The 15 employees and the 6 escaped prisoners are in protected-status declaration. The court arrest warrant for the 13 prison officers includes the names of the prison director, Petrit Aliaj, the shift chief, the deputy director and several other service employees. The police have not yet officially announced this matter.
It is still not known with certainty whether the escaped prisoners were supported by other persons or whether they were involved in the escape. “There is confirmation for the 6 escaped prisoners who were captured, but not for all of them,” said the sources.
On the other hand, sources from the investigators’ office say that the 20 escaped prisoners will be separated for special proceedings. Search warrants have been issued for some of them. It is suspected that some crossed the border.
