Korçë Incident on the Albanian-Greek border - One dead and one wounded by gunfire Albanian clandestine migrants paid for crossing the border in blood. The consequences of the latest incident are one dead and another wounded, shot by Greek soldiers. A burst of automatic gunfire into the air, followed by bullets directed at the bodies of the clandestine migrants. The wounded are transported to the nearest Greek town, while one clandestine migrant is released to notify the Albanian customs authorities. The person who now returns with the sad news of the incident is Astrit Xhuli, from the city of Fieri. According to him, it was midnight on Monday when the group of four clandestine migrants encountered the Greek soldiers. “We were returning towards Albanian territory,” A. Xhuli told “Koha Jonë”, “and in the darkness of the night we heard the first shots.” According to the accounts, the incident took place about 15 kilometres inside the Greek border. The wounded by the blind burst of automatic gunfire were 37-year-old Aristidh Troska, from the city of Fier, and Berti Xhaja, a citizen from the district of Vlorë. After being captured by the Greek soldiers, the four clandestine migrants were held for several hours at an observation post. There, Troska was seen to have been wounded in the shoulder and on the left side of his body, while the bullet had injured the legs of Xhaja, from Vlorë. “When the military vehicle arrived,” Xhuli says, distraught, “I saw my friend A. Troska breathe his last as they were putting him in the vehicle.” Those shot were taken to Kostur. The clandestine migrant who was released himself carried out the order to report the incident to Albanian customs. They promised to pursue the matter with the Greek side. The circumstances presented by the witness suggest an accidental version of the incident, but other details raise suspicion of a terrorist act. According to Xhuli, one of the five soldiers spoke Albanian, saying that he had helped dozens of Albanians cross the border illegally. It is said that this Albanian-speaking soldier specifically expressed a kind of protest over the wounding of the clandestine migrants and made sure that the Kapshticë customs post was notified.
