Albania risks waiting until autumn

Yesterday in Strasbourg: The CoE Legal Affairs Committee votes against examining Albania’s request, tomorrow at the Parliamentary Assembly Albania risks waiting until autumn The vote ended 14 against, 11 for and 3 abstentions Doke: Arbënori did not agree yesterday for Nano to return to politics 6 observations from the Legal Affairs Committee Unfortunately, the Legal Affairs Committee of the CoE did not give a positive assessment yesterday for Albania’s membership in the CoE, disappointing a temporary member state. It is also confirmed by the CoE, our correspondent reports here, that this is a declassification of Albania as a condition of the great apparatus known by this major continental institution. Another illusion has finally passed, let us call it that. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe stated that Albania is far from the standards of the Council of Europe and in these conditions yesterday’s political submission failed on the part of the Albanian delegation, as no one had ever expected in another country. The current deputy, the vote was favorable on the part of the majority. Thus, for Albania’s membership this vote against, it would have brought the present majority to fatalism. The consequences of admission would have been, for the Albanian delegation, a matter of discredit, all the more so because it had been a repeated failure. This event was directly and indirectly contributed to by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Pjetër Arbnori. Yesterday he played the same role in the Council of Europe as was written yesterday in the newspaper "Koha Jonë". For this reason, a considerable number of deputies did not accept that Mr. Nano should return to politics. (continued on page 3)

Moldavia becomes a conditional member of the CoE

Respect for human rights is demanded human rights to direct the one [?] Strasbourg Moldavia becomes a conditional member of the CoE Respect for human rights is demanded human rights to direct the one to direct the nyruh [?] More than one part of the sovereign countries decided yesterday in Moldavia was admitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe as an observer country and this was conditioned by several conditions set by the Parliament of Moldavia for the country’s membership in the Council of Europe. Earlier, Moldavia had made concessions in the field of private property by also allowing foreigners to have the right to buy land. However, there were in fact difficulties found, especially from the issue of the official language. Here the small European country was not ranked for receiving the vote, nevertheless it is accepted by conditional decision and by this it declares that it will resolve the identified shortcomings. The most important thing is respect for human rights, minorities and language rights. Europe is gradually drawing Moldavia toward it. Europe is showing Moldavia that it has placed some conditions on it, and this has been assessed as an important signal among the new democracies of the Continent. Albania knows well how much this weighs.
