11 September, Clinton–Berisha meeting
WASHINGTON — The White House announced that President Clinton will meet with the President of Albania, Sali Berisha, on 11 September during the latter’s working visit to Washington.
White House spokesman Mike McCurry said the two leaders would discuss the process of institutionalizing democracy and market reforms in Albania, as well as Albania’s role in establishing stability in the troubled Balkan region.
Cooperation between the two countries on economic and security issues will also be on the agenda.

Albanian consulate opens in Ioannina
The Albanian Consulate in Ioannina began operating at the start of this week.
The agreement to open it was reached three years ago, when Albania and Greece, wishing to expand political cooperation and better represent their interests in each other’s countries, decided to open a Greek Consulate in Gjirokastër and an Albanian one in Ioannina.
While the Greek Consulate in Gjirokastër has been operating for two years, only a few days ago two young Albanian diplomats raised the Albanian flag on “Napoleon Zerva” Street in Ioannina, where the Albanian Consulate is now based.
Although the Albanian Consulate in Ioannina has begun operating, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet appointed an Albanian consul general in Ioannina.

Greek Minister of Justice to visit Tirana
Greek Minister of Justice Anastasios Peponis will visit Tirana from 15 to 17 August, information sources in Athens report.
Within a short period, following the visit by Greek Foreign Minister Papulias (his visit to Tirana also marked the turn of interstate relations toward calmer waters), and the visit by Defence Minister Arsenis, it is the Greek Minister of Justice who will visit Tirana. During his two-day visit to Tirana, Peponis will meet with his counterpart Frashëri, as well as Albania’s highest-ranking officials.
The two justice ministers will sign an agreement on cooperation in the fight against organized crime.
