“These are not true, Berisha’s claims that the people do not support the Socialist Party. Korça, Fieri and Vlora support it. We are strong and we will win the elections.” These were among the few words that SP deputy chairman Luan Hajdaraga managed to say amid the shouts of Socialist supporters and the intervention of police officers.
To the sound of police-car sirens and following the impression of a minor confrontation with the police station’s forces, the demonstrators dispersed in small groups, like participants in anti-fascist demonstrations once did.

In September–December 1991, three sales of cartridges were made to one person, amounting to 1,043,000, by the former director. These sales were made without proper authorization from the Ministry of Defence. Considering that on the private black market abroad, one cartridge sold for up to USD 5, the total value of these sales would have been over USD 5 million, not counting the USD 4,875 from 975 cartridges that were not recorded in the expenditure logs at the testing range. In 1993, a shortage of 20 kg of metallic mercury was found in warehouse P-1.

Two pilots of the vessel arrested
ROME—Twenty-six Albanians who were trying to enter Italy illegally were rescued from drowning yesterday after being assisted by an Italian vessel in the waters of Otranto (southeastern Italy), according to police sources.
The Port Authority of Otranto received a distress call at around 04:00 (local time) from a powerful vessel experiencing difficulties because of an engine failure. Rough seas and strong winds prevented the evacuation of the 26 Albanians. The coast guard then towed the vessel to the port of Otranto, where both pilots were arrested. The other Albanian nationals were taken to a reception centre for medical treatment before being sent to Albania.
Every day, dozens of would-be clandestine migrants—Albanians, Kurds or Chinese—try their luck by crossing the strait separating Albania from the Italian coast in very fast boats rented from Albanian intermediaries.
