Pressure on the newspaper continues; Koha Jonë risks publication

Pressure on the newspaper continues Koha Jonë risks publication Despite statements from the Ministry of Interior that the seizure of the “Koha Jonë” vehicles was carried out for document verification, they continue to be blocked, now for five days. This arbitrary and unlawful act has placed at serious risk the entire distribution network of the newspaper “Koha Jonë” and more than half of the newspapers published in the country. The attack, initially launched with slander against the newspaper “Koha Jonë”, continues with the blocking of its distribution and is deepening through blackmail on the street and over the phone, surveillance of journalists, court proceedings, financial inspections and open threats to close the newspaper. Only a parliamentary commission was missing, and one was set up yesterday to investigate the newspaper “Koha Jonë”. Aside from the fact that in the world we have not heard of such parliamentary commissions, which instead of making laws investigate the independent press, it is astonishing how the highest body of a state, where we thought the people most chosen by the people sit, takes as its basis the crazy statements of a 24-year-old Italian. So this entire parliament decided yesterday to investigate what the Italian wrote, whose revelation has also challenged SHIK. The country’s major intelligence service, despite the large funds it receives from the government and the sophisticated means at its disposal, was unable to uncover the “millions” flowing like a river from Serbia. This difficult task now falls to the parliamentary experts. “Koha Jonë”, which has not had a day of peace with the PD government since its creation, does not believe that this state will one day understand the tradition of a free press. On the contrary, it continues with attacks and pressures that are becoming ever more severe. Faced with this situation, which is worsening day by day, under conditions of blockades from all sides and under the daily pressure on the work of journalists, the newspaper “Koha Jonë” is seriously risking its publication. In this situation created by certain segments and individuals within the power structure, the staff of “Koha Jonë” once again calls on the Government, Parliament, and the President of the Republic to keep the structures under control and not allow the violation of press freedom. The closure of this newspaper at the youngest age in this history would prove the current political failure itself.
