In the “Tivar massacre,” 3,760 Albanians from Kosovo were killed. By order of the Yugoslav Command in January 1945, to mobilize Albanians from Kosovo who were supposed to fight in Trieste, Yugoslav partisans, in cooperation with Albanian partisan units, gathered 5,400 armed people, members of partisan bands and nationalists from Mitrovica, Prizren, Vučitërnë, Podujevë and Prishtina. They were disarmed and set marching from Prizren through the northern regions of Albania to reach Tivar. Along the way, the sick were left behind and disappeared. In Tivar, 80 people were slaughtered; the rest were killed in a burst of automatic gunfire lasting an hour. page 2
