Crime strikes again, the police bleed
Two police brothers, Gezim and Besim Neziri, are killed. The killers remain a mystery
Last night at 9:30 p.m. in Tirana, automatic gunfire raked the police
Another killing, this time even more serious, has shaken the Police. Seven months ago the Vlora commissioner was killed, but yesterday crime took the lives of two brothers in the Police. One of them was killed on the spot, while the other died in hospital. Both worked at the Tirana Police, and when they were taken by ambulance to the Military Hospital they were identified as the Neziri brothers. The serious killing took place in the capital last night, a few hours before the Interior Minister, who had arrived from America on a special mission, together with the deputy head of police and the deputy minister of public order, was due to leave for Tirana. As reported to “Koha,” one of the murdered policemen, Gezim Neziri, 29, father of two, was in blue uniform. The other had just finished his shift at a police unit. The killing took place on Krrabës road in Tirana, near the building of the Ministry of Defense, opposite C[?]am. According to reserved police sources, it is suspected that at the scene the killers managed to shoot the policemen. One of the victims was in a private car. The place where the crime occurred was engulfed by real terror. In a brief statement to reporters, the police announced that two citizens had been killed in an automatic-gun barrage. It is important to establish the victims’ identities. Police officers were immediately dispatched to the crime scene, where senior police officials also gathered. An hour after the crime, three ambulances and a fire truck that had been sent to retrieve the victims were at the scene. At that time, the only information circulating about the dead was that they were all police officers. Later, police officials said that two policemen had been executed at the scene. Among the names of the dead was placed that of the chief of criminal police of Police Station No. 1. However, that name turned out to be completely false. Fortunately, the dead were not from the criminal police. The victims, apart from being brothers, were one a precinct chief and the other an anti-drug chief in Tirana’s No. 1 District. The information remained like that, without names, until at the Ministry of Public Order, in the anti-crime waiting room, questions came one after another. No police staff member gave any information. One of the senior police chiefs, hurrying past toward the room, said that two police officers and members of the rapid intervention forces had been killed. At that time, official confirmation from the police brought the names of the two officers. Gezim and Besim Neziri, the two brothers. The first was killed immediately after the attack, while the second died in hospital. The announcement said the dead were on duty in Tirana district no. 1.
