Banks block “VEFA”

The largest Albanian company, "Vefa Holding", announced yesterday the blocking of the lenders’ principal capital for a period of three to six months. All interest rates are being flattened to the figure five, and this is being done, as stated in the spokesman’s announcement for Vefa, “to enable the continuity of the company’s investments.” According to the announcement, it was “the creditors, managers and well-wishers of the company” who suggested this solution. In this way, if everything goes according to the latest statement, Albanians will get back the money invested in the country’s largest company no earlier than 23 April. The company’s decision to block clients’ money came after the idea that Vefa president Vehbi Alimuca[j?] had floated in the press about examining a proposal from creditors and managers, etc. According to him, the proposal concerned blocking the lenders’ principal capital for a period of three to six months, while providing the corresponding interest rates. Mr. Alimucaj has meanwhile given no explanation regarding the status and identity of these people, who have practically decided the fate of several tens of millions of dollars that are said to be on the company’s customer lists. The president of “VEFA”, Mr. Alimuca, should have accompanied his press announcement with additional figures, since the number of his creditors is greater than or equal to around 500,000 Albanians. The “VEFA” phenomenon is among the most dangerous, and its consequences are hardly likely to be forgotten within a month. The collapse of “VEFA” is also a collapse for Berisha. Vefa’s several-month suspension raises many questions in the Albanian public opinion. The blocking by the superboss’s bank has apparently shaken his finances. However, people seem to want to see clearly, but even more they want to get their money back. Now that loan sharks are shaking in their boots across the country and some of the bosses have gone to prison, the big companies are trying to hold out in a general climate of distrust that has gripped customers. The pressure to withdraw money has been great, and this has increased the flow of cash out of the tills. Although Alimucaj categorically denied that “his company” had problems similar to those of the other firms, the blocking imposed on him by the bank again shows that problems have knocked on the door of “VEFA” as well. Starting today, we will see how the company’s clients will receive the decision made at the headquarters of chief “Avi Rustemi”. A strong reaction or waiting and patience? We clarify that Alimucaj’s fall is also Berisha’s fall. Therefore, starting today, the banks will be placed under the strict orders of power to cash out the countless sums of “VEFA”.
