Vranicki’s vision in Tirana has set out the opposite of what we said earlier in an editorial. On the occasion of the anniversary of our Trieste, nothing has happened in the last 4-5 hours; thus, within yesterday’s day, endless explanations have been added to find out what is happening with the current situation in Albania. In yesterday’s statement sent by the European Participation delegation, it was said, among other things, that the Albanian government, since the beginning of the crisis, with thousands of votes has left open the possibility of a solution to the crisis in Albania. The final date for the elections on which voting will take place has not been confirmed, and it is not yet known whether the measures proposed by Shpëtim Ceka will be implemented. All of these are part of a situation created in which the country is moving between chaos and fragile calm.
He declared that European countries have not seen in the maneuvers of Albanian politicians complete sincerity, and on that basis he praised in Tirana that clear conclusions must be taken on board and implemented. The time for demonstrations and prolonged political adventure is over. If the Albanian side, even at the beginning of next week, takes clear, verifiable actions to begin bringing the crisis period to an end and to definitively restore public order, then a new period of cooperation will begin. At this point everything is directed toward the government and the opposition.
In another choice, Sali Berisha assessed that inside the country tensions will remain high for a few more days. There will be just as much tension over the issue of the election date, which is being pushed to June. The PD is also maintaining the same position, according to which the final date will be June 29, but its counterpart in the other camp is responding with an increasingly harsh tone. This escalation is putting them face to face with the demand to set an exact calendar for the elections and their preparations.
Vranicki’s latest message was that movements that move the election date forward or back cannot be tolerated. At the same time, he called on all Albanian political parties to participate in the elections. This comes at a moment when many future decisions will depend on the course of next week and on the response of political forces in the country.
