EC: Albanians, either elections or chaos! Vlora Committee: Voting no later than 29 June

Although the international deadline for elections in Albania is approaching, people are still asking questions and do not know what is happening. The protagonists of the political movement themselves are in a similar position. In general, the players on the political field are confused. In practical terms: The Head of State and his apparatus are caught between alternatives: whether to arm themselves to steal the votes, or to prepare for opposition. They do not dare take up arms; but neither do they dare enter opposition, because of the misdeeds they have committed. The confusion here is total. The political parties, formerly in opposition, face a dilemma between “the cake” and “the poison.” They place more faith in the options offered by international diplomacy than in protest and the people’s vote. Part of the opposition is afraid that Albanians may keep up their tradition of revolt even after a change of government. The 58-year-old son of Ahmet Zogu, named Lekë, has also entered the political arena. The only thing he is not afraid of is prison... because he has experienced it during his time in emigration over an arms-related matter. He feels afraid of everything else. He fears the decision of Xhafer Ypi (who held the position now occupied by Arbnori), which removed Ahmet Zogu from the post of King; he fears his father’s constitution; he fears 5 May, which came at a bad time for him; he fears that he does not know the Albanian language well; he is even afraid of himself, since he cannot take responsibility for anything in Albania. Meanwhile, strangely enough, all these people who have given their lives to Albania are afraid of someone who has just arrived for the first time. All of this has created a situation of confusion. Meanwhile, non-governmental institutions, including those that have managed to survive, are engaged in folkloric research. They do not understand their real position and role, and for this reason they organize songs and dances with flowers in the streets. In other words, nothing; another research project. This whole mechanism has hemmed in two living entities that are trying to act. The first is the mechanism of popular protest throughout Albania. After bringing the standing of the state and the president down to the level they deserved, this mechanism seemed no longer necessary. But in fact it is active, even though it often lacks the support of the political opposition and is fiercely opposed by the President. The opposition and the President have created an iron shell so that representatives of popular protest cannot enter the political table. The other living entity consists of the Government of Reconciliation plus the Multinational Forces. They belong together and cannot be understood separately. But while Fino’s government is being openly attacked by Berisha’s clan, it seems the Multinational Forces will suffer the same fate on the eve of the parliamentary elections. Nevertheless, although the living elements of political life exist, they have been left outside the great presidential mechanism, “Mbrojt”. Opposition. At the center is the confused part, unfortunately.
