ALBA: The scandals won over ratings on 20 June. The Special Commission of the Socialist Party sabotaged the elections. Freedom! The band from the Cave, three imprisonments and Durrës “Mezini,” the last card?... The scenario of the day before yesterday unfolded along the entire election route and the incident around 26 March. Although from 29 June onward, this was the inevitable outcome of developments. Perhaps to continue with a majority two weeks ahead, before the politics that will be shaped on 30 June with the property issue, there have been the late moves of the opposition and of Friday or its overexposure. After the recent efforts of the socialists to mobilize voters in implementation of the party leadership’s calls with numerous meetings across the districts, after Berisha’s promise of another rally in the center of Tirana, the day before yesterday became a daily scene of incidents and unusual events. In fact, judging by the political activity and the elections of 20 June, after extensive discussions in various circles, it was clear that the most serious problem was linked to the candidacies of some well-known figures. This became especially clear in Tirana and Durrës, where senior leaders of the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party became involved in harsh public exchanges. On the other hand, Mr. Berisha’s meetings with his supporters in Laç were accompanied by tension. According to the accounts of participants, during a rally gunfire was heard, causing panic and a temporary interruption of the activity. The police have not yet provided a final version of the event. Meanwhile, Nano continued his election meetings in other cities, where he was welcomed with flowers and applause. This strong contrast between the two main political figures dominated the day’s public commentary. That same day, opposition representatives accused the election commissions of irregularities and administrative obstacles. Following repeated claims of vote manipulation, a full investigation and transparency in the counting were demanded. Further on, analysts and representatives of civil society pointed out that the campaign climate was becoming increasingly tense. In some cases, verbal clashes between militants were also reported.
