The police, a rope for the strikers

The hunger strike of four Democrats continues. Parties go to the stranded people in the vehicle The government decides: No car in front of RTV. More than 60 arrested during the PD protest Pages 2-5

You again, boss?

BY ANDI BEJTJA The PD has decided that even after the March storm that swept through Albania and the two thousand victims, it will not leave Albanians in peace, apparently until it fulfills its dream of coming to power or until it turns into a completely ridiculous party. The hunger strike by four of its main leaders, Azem Hajdari, Vili Minarolli, Shaban Memia and Ylli Vejsiu, in front of the RTSH building as a sign of protest against the “informational blackout that RTSH is applying to the PD rallies” serves more to make the PD look ridiculous than to strengthen it. Immediately after the news of the hunger strike of the four deputies, many people asked the question: them again? The PD together with its leader Sali Berisha are acting and reacting as if it were 1990, as if Nano were Enver Hoxha, as if the West and the United States were still on their side and, what is worse, the PD is acting as if it has forgotten that it was in power for five years, that during its rule a national tragedy occurred, that Albania was almost on the edge of the abyss. Although Berisha and the PD can gain no benefit from these adolescent strikes, these actions still aggravate the nerves of Albanians who are preparing to face a difficult winter because of the PD’s mistakes over the past five years. If the PD and Berisha have no morals or if this state has laws at all, or only a prime minister who thinks more about the electorate of Rome and Brussels than about the Albanian electorate, or a President who, with the primitive canon of a repulsive national reconciliation, seeks to appear better than his own party and better than the law itself? In coming to these destructive strikes, the PD was also helped by the Albanian parliament when it approved the Arbnori amendment in the name of compromise at the expense of the law, and it is being helped by the Albanian President too, who in this bloody indictment of Albania’s history of the last four months seeks to place an artificial stone of national reconciliation. The time has come for someone to remind the PD and Sali Berisha that Albania and Albanians are more important than Sali Berisha, Azem Hajdari, Vili Minarolli, Shaban Memia, Ylli Vejsiu... And only the law can do that.
