War and peace in 100 days
Yesterday’s statements by Sali Berisha about the end of Albanian pluralism do not seem to have taken on fully the black tones that have begun to gather over Prime Minister Nano. In fact, they are not based solely on the fact that the new government is undermining the principle of democracy, since 100 days have not yet passed, let alone hundreds or thousands of days in office. Led by Nano, it has achieved nothing more than 100 days. Nano’s 100 days have marked nothing more than 100 days of external failure, with the spread of rule by force abroad and a real flood of democratic insecurity and helplessness.
Prime Minister Fatos Nano has never hidden his antipathy toward the head of the PDK [?]. As the next leader of the opposition, he had a bleak relationship with the opposition in general, accused of revanchism. Not without zeal and passion for building the public administration, yet with all the government’s failures in 100 days, even he has not been able to avoid or refute the dissatisfaction with excessive optimism. Hampered by delays in the army disbandment project, the government from the first days carried out a series of actions that looked more like an anti-reform campaign than a reform.
So much for Nano at home? in Tirana? With the seizure of power, through rallying the ranks and by exercising brutality, the prime minister also stood out for one thing: in 100 days of government, he trampled on every agreement, including those of the Council of Europe. It thus became clearer that this government is moving with two standards, one in words and another in deeds. In this sense, he himself knew well that the first 100 days of his rule were not only a test of his governance, but a trial for the entire political class.
